Picked up two cases (48 cans each) of protein, Bumble Bee tuna, at our local Smith's store. Worked out to about .49 a can.

Over this winter I have been rotating some long term storage and making use where I can. One thing I have done is white rice. I packed a couple of 5 gallon buckets in mylar back in 2011, and this winter I have been using that rice to make some extra nutrition for our outside dogs on cold days. The rice looks and cooks as if it were new, and I would not hesitate to eat if were I not low carbing... Once the buckets are empty I will refill them and go for another 8 years or so...

What I'm saying is NOT advice. This is something all will have to determine for themselves. We are using rice that has been stored in sealable 5gallon buckets that is OVER 10 YEARS OLD. I have a good nose and tongue for rancidity and there is not the slightest variance in what we have stored.

Parboiled Rice is a excellant prep that offers some advantages over regular rice, increased vitamin count for one because it is usally fortified

Its been raining steady for two days here in Free Wyoming so we turned to a couple of indoor projects. We had two bedrooms that were more-or-less unused. Bought two single beds and placed one in each room. One room already had a double bed, the other a double-decker futon (big one). We did this to be prepared for two things. 1) arrival of guests; and 2) if SHTF, we can take in family. Though we don't go camping we're going to buy 4 nice 15 or so below zero sleeping bags also to supplement sleeping arrangements.

Still raining. We decided to be a bit more productive today and are doing our yearly check of Joseph's Storehouse (our pantry). So far we have found 5 cans of sliced carrots that were chancy so we got rid of them. We 100% check all tops, bottoms and seams. If they show the least imperfection we trash it. In 20 or so years of having a formal pantry carrots pop up most often. Check yours good. I don't know if its because they are low acid or not.

My son and his uncle built us a wood bin support system made out of three walls of cinder block - each one about five feet high. We can pile wood without worry of a collapse. Nice.

Had a load of wood delivered Friday and me and mama finished stacking it yesterday. Another load scheduled for 26 Sep. Would you believe that a winter weather advisory was issued for this part of Free Wyoming, with possible snow below 9000 feet.

Wood and kindling supply is done for the year. Have about 3 cords of wood in addition to cut up pallets. Have been keeping all our shredded papers and records for fire starter. Chimney sweep is coming on 9 October. I'm fixin to buy a damn good short wave radio next month. I've got a nice faraday container in the garage for things like this. Sorry I can't shake this folks, but I think the s-h-i-t is coming. Have you been enhancing your precious metals?

This has happened before and I don't know the answer to it. Why do cans of carrots spoil so quickly. We're into our pantry now doing our routine yearly double-check and so far have found 6 cans of bad carrots. A couple were leaking and about 4 cans had tiny pits in them like themetal was eating away so we discarded them.

Just finished snowblowing 6 inches of the white stuff.

No snow here yet, afternoon temps in the mid 60s. Cutting next years firewood to get ahead of the game. Also turning in maple leaves into garden beds.
