Today I planted 30 "Mortgage Lifter" tomato seeds in 3 Burpee window sill mini seed starting boxes. These boxes are designed to fit on an ordinary window sill and are much more convenient to use than the larger boxes. Now all I have to do is keep the cat from investigating this new addition.

Learned a new trick from a neighbor. She uses half an egg shell as mini seed starters, fills them with potting soil and sticks a tomato seed in them, then places them back in an egg carton and sets it on the window sill. The shell provides plenty of calcium for the tomato plant when transplanted into a larger pot and will help prevent blossom end rot.

Harvest time. All that work in the spring has paid off. Have picked apricots, grapes, and 2 kinds of plums. Have the dehydrator running making prunes from Italian plums. Some apples are almost ready to pick. Have been picking tomato's for the last 3 weeks. Cucumber plants burned up from the heat wave we had , it went up to 109 and that's all it took, they never bounced back. Had a few tomato's that were cooked on the plants. Red raspberries are done and black raspberries are still being picked every other day. Corn is coming on strong and is almost ready to harvest. Melon plants took a beating in the heat wave, all the yellow flowers died (cooked) and I don't see any new flowers re-growing. Planted a test area of wheat and will cut it down tomorrow. Its real easy to grow and next year I will plant a larger area. This upcoming winter I plan on planting some hazel nut trees and 2 walnut trees.
