Learned this lesson many years ago and am just amazed at the complete lack of preparedness by the population who inhabit this area, as if this scenario had never entered their minds. Watched some reports on Fox News and the people are freaking out, can't get gasoline and have no heat and food is getting scarce. The look on the peoples faces is one of shock, disbelief and incomprehension, like they have never encountered anything like this before and just shucked off the warnings given before the storm hit as so much drivle. Of course the New Jersey beachfront properties are mostly destroyed and anyone who had been even mildly prepared with stores of food and drinking water and an alternate power source probably would not be able to utilize these goods when their houses were pushed off their foundations or the roofs blown off so being prepared could not have helped these individuals. Do you think any of these residents will re-locate to higher ground inland? Do you think the building code will be amended to build new houses that can withstand a storm surge and with high wind load roof designs? We will see what happens after the clean up.
